I’m one of those writers who simply cannot write and listen to music at the same time. I’m a music junkie and if I try to turn it on while I work, the next thing I know I’m singing along and dancing around and not getting a single word written. I need silence to write.
However, I still always manage to have a playlist for each of my books—songs that remind me of the story or the characters for whatever reason. I’ll wear it out while I’m working on that specific novel, I just have to listen to it after writing hours. (Usually when I’m cooking for, or cleaning up after my four messy children,)
Each song on this list is a song that I imagined Seth would use if putting together a mix-tape for Ellie. It started with “Riot Girl” by Good Charlotte and just sort of grew from there. Hope you enjoy it.
